Warnings and Tears

Warnings and tears…they go together.

Paul reminded the disciples in Ephesus: “…for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.”

It is amazing to see the effect of warnings when they come with tears.

It is as if the rebuke is softened by tears.  It’s a warning that springs from a heart of love and compassion.

A warning without tears has an edge that cuts.  The warning is right…but the delivery is flawed.

This truth is most appropriate in the home.  Correction mixed with tears is a hedge against bitterness.  Children are sensitive to the difference.

And it’s true in the church.  Words of correction from a heart broken by love are always more palatable.

Warnings and tears – they go together.
